As small children, we saw the world with clear eyes. When we drew a figure, we drew a head-footer. Two spindly legs straight up to the head.
It wasn’t more complicated than that.
Children know so well that feet are their liberation movement. After all, feet carry them to all of life’s adventures.
But then one day, the child grew up. We became sensible. And began forcing our beloved feet into tight prisons of leather, and on Saturday nights we hoisted them up on stiletto heels. As sure as the sun rises, our backs started to ache.
Our shoulders locked up.
And the tension pain radiated.
The feet that were once our liberators now became our limiters.
We danced less and less, ran shorter distances with friends, and even laughed more rarely.
Our lives shrank because of painful shoes.
That’s why every person should give their feet a thought.
